Can you organise our flights?

No, sorry we don't organise flights or sell package holidays but flights are easy to book if you plan well ahead. See our Travel section for advice on booking your flights to North Cyprus.

Can we fly directly to North Cyprus?

Yes you can. There are flights from the major UK airports to Ercan Airport in North Cyprus but because of the political situation, the plane has to touch down in Turkey en route. This adds to the journey time making it over 6 hours and is reflected in the price. See our Travel section.

Can we fly to South Cyprus and then cross to Norh Cyprus?

Yes you can. There are numerous charter and scheduled flights to South Cyprus from most UK airports. Larnaca  is the most convenient airport to use for the onward journey north but you can also fly to Pathos See our Travel section.

How do we travel from Ercan Airport to our Villa?

Ercan is only twenty miles from Kyrenia (Girne) so it's about thirty minutes by taxi depending on which villa you are staying in. You can easily pick a taxi up at the airport and they will accept payment in pounds sterling. You will have an address and directions from us to show to the taxi driver.

For convenience, we can arrange a taxi for you. You will be met by someone holding a board with your name on it and they will already be briefed on where you are staying.

Of course you can also collect your hire car at the airport and find your own way to your villa, again following our directions. If you get lost a few times, that's part of the fun!

How do we travel from Larnaca Airport to our Villa?

We can arrange for you to be met at Larnaca by a taxi driver, with your name on a board, and taken to your villa, they will already be briefed on where you are staying. You will normally remain in the taxi at the border and the driver will help you with the brief passport formalities. The whole journey will take about ninety minutes and cost about £45 each way.

Alternatively if you prefer to be independant you can probably pick up a taxi at the airport to take you all the way. You can certainly take a taxi to the Ledras Palace border crossing, walk through the passport control and pick up another taxi on the other side to take you to your villa. You will have directions from us to show the driver

You can hire a car from some companies at Larnaca in the south, and take it into the north. The insurance is not valid in the north so you have to pay for extra insurance at the border. This will be third party insurance only which is very risky. If you have an accident which is your fault or damage the car in any way you will be liable up to the full value of the car. Also if the car breaks down you will have to sort out the problem yourself, the hire car company in the south will be unable to help. Consequently we don't recommend this.

Do we need to hire a car ?

To fully enjoy your stay in north cyprus and to explore the mountains and beaches, the villages and restaurants, we strongly recommend you have a hire car, for at least some of your holiday.
Hire cars are relatively inexpensive, about £20 a day including all insurance, and you'll feel at home driving on the left! The minimum age to hire is 21 but some companies have higher limits. A UK or International Driving Licence is required.

We can arrange a hire car for you, small, medium, large or jeep. Let us know what you fancy. Despite a large number of hire car companies operating in north cyprus, it can still be difficult to find a car in the season so we would always recommend booking in advance.

Will it be easy for us to drive in North Cyprus ?

Yes you'll find it quite easy. They drive on the left and road signs are international so that's a great help but beware of the standard of driving generally, it can be a bit erratic at times. They are only just becoming used to the speed cameras that have been introduced and you need to watch out for them too. The maximun speed, if not marked lower, is 100km/hr ( 62mph), front seat belts are compulsory and drink driving is illegal. Petrol and diesel are cheaper than in the UK and there are plenty of petrol stations along the main roads near to the main towns. There are no self service stations.

The main road network is pretty good but you can soon run out of tarmac if you head into the countryside. You should try and avoid the main road from the west into Kyrenia at busy times if possible because the congestion can be awful. A much needed bypass is under construction.

Can we hire a car in the north and use it to visit the south ?

No, this is not possible at the moment. You can park your car in Nicosia near the border and walk through. You can then walk or pick up a taxi to shop or explore the southern Greek part of Nicosia. You'll need some Cypriot Pounds or Euros in 2008.

Is there any public transport ?

Yes there is but it is limited. Buses and Dolmus (shared taxis) run to all the main areas, they are very cheap but the stops aren't obvious and there are no reliable timetables.
Private Taxis with yellow TAKSI signs on the roof charge an official tariff which is reasonable but you can't flag them down, you have to go to a taxi stand.
There are no functioning railways.
There are organised sightseeing tours to be found but a hire car is by far the best way to explore the island.

What's the weather like ?

Cyprus is the most easterly of the Mediterranean islands and is therefore the hottest and driest. In May the temperature starts to build up and in July and August is in the 30s - 40s°C (80 - 100°F) on the coast and a few degrees hotter inland. There is seldom rain from May to October and the sea remains warm from June to October.

In April the landscape is transformed into a marvellous blaze of colour, it can rain at this time for a day or two but it is usually wonderfully warm.

The winter evenings are cold but the days are clear and sunny with great views across to the Turkish mountains which can be lost in the heat haze of summer.

When is the best time to visit?

North Cyprus is a year round holiday destination but we think Spring and Autumn is the best time to visit. In March and April the island comes alive in a blaze of colourful flowers and the wonderful smell of citrus blossom. Rain is rare between June and mid September and it can be extremely hot in July and August.

The rainy season is usually November to February although you can get heavy showers in March and October. January and February can be particularly cold.

If sunbathing and swimming during the day, and dining outside in the evening are the essentials of your holiday, then we recommend you visit during May to October.
